Why even bother?

Why should anyone bother making a whole website that's down on America? Why don't you just get your fucken ass on a boat or a plane and get the fuck out if you don't like it ,   I can almost hear the root problem rednecks (RPRs©) having their typical mindless knee-jerk reaction as they read this.

Because it's my country too asshole, and I have every bit as much right to love it and desire to see it become something better, as you do to degrade it with your Neanderthal warmongering, misplaced patriotism, and general stupidity, fear, and hatefulness. Why don't you leave instead and make America a better place by doing so?

There still remains some faint hope that sufficient numbers of successfully propagandized American lemmings will awaken from their slumber just enough to consider what it is they really want out of existence: fear, disease, war, mass suffering and death, or a brighter world where the baser instincts of humankind are at least somewhat held in check by civilization? Today we stand poised to exterminate ourselves, our culture, maybe even the whole planet through the use of nuclear weapons, bioweapons, and chemical weapons. Chances are not every single person will actually die in the looming conflagration, but the survivors may find themselves inhabiting a preindustrial dark age resembling the Middle Ages except the environment this time around will be intensely polluted with radioactivity and dangerous chemicals for a very long time. Especially in the short term, it's the kind of scenario ("megadeath for the kiddies" as Dr. M. Goldman so eloquently describes it) that's likely to be characterized as one in which the survivors envy the dead.

As long as there exists even the faintest chance for rationality to persevere so that America does not lose itself completely, it is a chance worth taking and time well spent. For we are still the architects of our future even if so many have fallen into the nationalistic fervor and now goose-step to the drums of war. American support for war is eerily similar to how "good Germans" rallied in support of Adolf Hitler, only this century's sheep don't have the excuse of not knowing exactly what they are getting themselves into. On the contrary, the Bush Administration says their war planning now includes the use of nuclear weapons even in preemptive strikes (nukes aren't just for defense or "deterrence" any longer), deliberate planning for moral atrocities that have the potential to far exceed Hitler's Holocaust. The bottom line is George Bush Junior aspires to mass murder, and if you support him, so do you. If these words make you angry, now's the time you ought to ask yourself, what do you think Jesus or Buddha or Mohammed would have to say about a society or an individual that advocates a first-strike nuclear war?

As conditions deteriorate in the U.S. things may actually get so bad that it becomes smarter to leave than to get locked down in a fascist state. With people like John Ashcroft and Donald Rumsfeld helping to make decisions that influence our lives, and with our highest courts becoming packed with right-wing ideologues for judges, the threat of totalitarianism is not only real, we can observe it gelling before our very eyes. It's only going to take the slightest excuse for Bush Junior to declare martial law in this country and start treating anyone who disagrees with him as enemy combatants so he can lock them away forever without trial. Wake up America, before the freedoms and values we've held dear since 1776 are gone completely.
